Every year, at the end of the year, the Hmong usually ask an older person to send the old year away, along with its curses, pains, and sufferings, and to usher in the new year with its blessings of health, wealth, and prosperity. But even though the new year has come, we often do not receive the blessings as anticipated. The reason is because we are not willing to let go of the old habits.
In Genesis chapter 35, we will study about Jacob and his family, letting go of something in order to receive another as God has prepared for them.
Read the whole chapter of Genesis 35, before answering the following questions:
1. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus said that we cannot serve both God and money. And in 1 Corinthians 10:21, the Apostle Paul said that we cannot “drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons;” neither can we “have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.” Knowing that Jacob had married women who did not know the Lord from a foreign country, now before God would bless Jacob, what did he have to let go?
