When God called Abraham out of his country to a foreign land, which God promised Abraham to be received as inheritance, Abraham went out not knowing where he was going. His action, according to the Scripture, is by faith.
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” A word of synonyms for the word “certain” is also “sure”. Therefore, “being sure of what we hope for and sure of what we do not see” is faith. “What we hope for and what we do not see” is God’s promise. Thus, we can conclude that faith is being sure of God’s promise.
The Bible reveals many of God’s conditional promises. A conditional promise is a promise of IF-THEN: If you do this, then you receive that kind of a promise. Therefore, we cannot have faith, unless we know the promises of God. To know God's promises, we must discover them; we must study God’s Word. Join a care group, if you want to know God's promises made especially for you, and this is a promise.
