The Hmong believe that there was a universal flood. We have oral various stories about the flood. But the most important story is the Show the Way Chant. The Hmong from Laos have story that Nkauj Iab and Nraug Oo were the couples who were saved by a drum. According to F.M. Savina, the story from the Hmong in Vietnam said that a brother and his sister were saved from the flood by a wooden boat. D.C. Graham wrote about the Hmong in China who have similar story that a brother and his sister were saved by a wooden boat. William Geddes said that a brother and his sister entered a drum and was saved from the flood.
Because the Hmong passed on the stories orally, over the years, the stories become different from each other. Nevertheless, the Hmong believe that there was a universal flood.
